Sustainable Driftless Magazine (online) is a production of the Sustainable Driftless, Inc., (SDI) a 501 © 3 not for profit charitable organization dedicated to inspiring resource conservation, vibrant communities, and sustainable growth in the Driftless Region.

Formed in 2016, SDI SDI partnered with Untamed Science, Inc., another nonprofit organization, to produce Decoding the Driftless, a feature-length documentary film about the Driftless Region. In 2021, the film was honored with a regional Emmy Award from the Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In 2020, Educational Materials were developed for educating Driftless Region school systems on regional uniqueness and environmental understanding.  This is an ongoing project in need of further support and is directed by Jan Wee.

In 2021, the Sustainable Driftless Magazine was introduced online, with the goal to further educate, inform and entertain about all sorts of topics that lead to sustainability and environmental understanding.

Current efforts include expanding our working board with representation throughout the region.  Connecting with other nonprofits and businesses that also strive to  foster sustainable growth and management activities within the region for the benefit of all is a priority, creating strength in our combined efforts.

Founding and Current Board members include:  Timothy Jacobson, George Howe, Julia Henley, Nancy Breed., Prof Thomas Johnson, Kent Johnson, Brian Rude, and Brian Murphy.   Jan Wee is Director of Educational Outreach.

Support our work via purchasing copies of our movie, and becoming a member.  You’ll help us help thousands more people experience and cherish the most precious, mysterious and beautiful places on the Driftless landscape–and through that–help us achieve our mission.
